The Weaver of Fate
(A tale of a Newari Folk Demon)
In the sleepy town of Bhaktapur, nestled in the Kathmandu Valley, there lived a mysterious woman named Pichal Bhujingi. She was a weaver of extraordinary skill, known for her exquisite fabrics and intricate patterns. But few knew that Pichal Bhujingi was not just a mortal woman – she was a demon with a dark and sinister purpose.
By day, Pichal Bhujingi would sit at her loom, weaving beautiful fabrics that seemed to shimmer and glow in the sunlight. But by night, she would transform into a seductress, luring unsuspecting men to her pati-pauwa with promises of love and comfort.
Once they fell under her spell, Pichal Bhujingi would weave a different kind of fabric – one that would ensnare their souls and drain their life force. Her victims would never leave her pati-pauwa alive, and their spirits would be trapped in the very fabric they had admired.
The people of Bhaktapur whispered stories of Pichal Bhujingi's dark magic, but few dared to venture near her pati-pauwa. Those who did would often return with tales of her enchanting beauty and irresistible charm.
One brave young man, named Keshav, decided to confront Pichal Bhujingi and put an end to her evil ways. He entered her pati-pauwa, determined to resist her charms and destroy her loom. But Pichal Bhujingi was too cunning, and she wove a fabric that seemed to come alive, ensnaring Keshav in its threads.
As the night wore on, Keshav found himself trapped, his soul slowly being drained by Pichal Bhujingi's dark magic. Just as all hope seemed lost, he remembered the words of a wise old man: "The only way to defeat a demon is to confront your own desires."
Keshav realized that he had been blinded by his own lust and pride. He closed his eyes, focused on his inner strength, and began to weave a counter spell. The fabric of Pichal Bhujingi's magic began to unravel, and her powers were broken.
In the end, Keshav emerged victorious, but not without scars. He warned the people of Bhaktapur about the dangers of Pichal Bhujingi's magic, and the town was forever changed. The pati-pauwa was abandoned, and the legend of Pichal Bhujingi became a cautionary tale about the dangers of desire and the importance of self-awareness.
And so, the story of Pichal Bhujingi serves as a reminder to beware of the demons that lurk in the shadows, waiting to ensnare us with their charms and magic.
